Our rules

What can go on a Crafty Website site.

Crafty Website looks after websites for lots of small businesses. These rules keep everyone's sites, email and payments safe, and explain how paying for your website works.

Last updated 23 October 2026

What is not allowed

A site on Crafty Website must not show, sell, send or link to:

Anything illegal in the United Kingdom, or where you or your visitors are

Sexual or pornographic material, or anything that sexualises children. That last is reported to the police and the Internet Watch Foundation straight away

Hate, harassment or threats, or anything that encourages violence or self-harm

Scams, fake shops, phishing, or pretending to be another person or business

Viruses, malware, or anything built to attack other computers

Spam, including forms or mailing lists used to send messages people did not ask for

Other people's words, photos, logos, music or video that you do not have permission to use

Weapons, illegal drugs or prescription medicines

Selling tobacco, vaping products or e-liquids. A shop that sells them may have a website showing what it stocks, its opening hours and where to find it - but nothing can be bought, reserved or paid for on it

Gambling, betting or casino games. Charity raffles and small lotteries are fine, as long as they are run properly and registered where the law needs it

Forms that collect people's details without saying what they are for

If a site breaks these rules

We can take any site offline straight away, without warning, while we look into it. Visitors will see that the site is unavailable.

If it does break these rules, we can keep it offline or close the account. There is no refund for time a site is offline or closed because of this.

We decide whether something breaks these rules. If you think we have got it wrong, email hello@craftywebsite.com and we will look again.

Where the law requires it, we pass information to the police or other authorities.

Reporting a site

Anyone can report a site we host. You do not need an account. Email abuse@craftywebsite.com with the web address and what is wrong. We read every report and act on it as quickly as we can.

If you think a site shows a child being abused, report it to the Internet Watch Foundation at report.iwf.org.uk as well.

Paying for your website

Building a website is free. You only pay once it goes live. Until then it is not on the web, and it cannot send emails to your customers.

Each live website is on one plan - Starter, Business or Pro - paid by card, monthly or yearly. Paying for a year costs less; paying monthly costs 20% more. Prices are on our pricing page. Your plan is charged in your own currency; web addresses are charged in pounds.

Paying yearly also includes a free web address for a year - see Web addresses below.

Stripe takes the payments. We never see or store your card details.

Your plan renews by itself - every month, or every year if that is how you pay - until you cancel. Before a yearly plan renews we email you about three weeks ahead, with the date and the amount.

You can switch between paying monthly and paying yearly while your payments are up to date. The switch happens at your next renewal, so nothing is charged or refunded in the meantime.

Past payments, receipts and your card are under Card and receipts in the builder.

Storage for your pictures and files is 2 GB on Starter, 10 GB on Business and 50 GB on Pro. When it is full, new uploads stop until you make room or move up; nothing is deleted.

Extra business email addresses are £1 a month each - ask us and we will set them up. Changes we make to your website for you are £40 an hour.

If we change the price of a plan, we email you at least 30 days before your first payment at the new price, so you can change plan or cancel first. If you change plan or switch how you pay, the new plan is at today's price.

If a payment fails

If a payment fails, your website stays on the web for 7 days while you sort it out. After that it goes offline. Your pages stay in your account.

When you put a working card in, the payment is taken straight away and your website comes back. If you pay within the 7 days, your payment date stays the same. If it went offline, you don't pay for the time it was offline: a fresh month starts on the day you pay, and that becomes your new payment date. That first payment also includes the 7 days it stayed on the web unpaid - the builder shows you the amount before you pay. If the new card is refused too, nothing is charged and you can try another card.

Cancelling

Cancel at any time from Your package in the builder. Your website stays live until the end of the month - or year, if you pay yearly - that you have paid for, then goes offline. You can change your mind with Keep it going before then.

There is no refund for part of a month or year. If something goes wrong on our side, email hello@craftywebsite.com and we will put it right.

If your website stays offline because it is unpaid or cancelled, we keep your account, pages, forms and entries for at least 12 months. Before we delete anything, we email you at least 30 days ahead.

Changing plan

You can move up or down at any time while your payments are up to date (or in the 7 days after a payment fails).

Moving up starts as soon as the difference for the rest of your month or year is paid.

Moving down starts straight away. The unused part comes off your next payment, not back onto your card.

Anything your new plan does not include stops working until you move back up. Nothing is deleted.

Web addresses

You can buy a web address through us, ending in .co.uk, .com and many others. The price is what the company that runs that ending charges, plus our fee, and you see it before you buy. It is registered in your name, so you own it, not us. We look after it for you and point it at your website. Web addresses are charged in pounds.

Pay for a website yearly and one web address of up to £20 a year is free for a year. It has to be a new address - the free year cannot be put on the renewal of one you already have. This is once per account, not per website. After that it renews at the normal price. Month-to-month packages do not include a free web address, but you can buy one whenever you like.

We renew your address about a month before it runs out and charge the card you pay for your website with. The price is worked out again at each renewal, so it can be different from last year if the company that runs the ending has changed theirs. We email you when it has renewed, with the date it now runs until. You can turn renewing off at any time under Your web address in the builder; while it is off, we remind you every few days as it gets close to running out. If the card does not go through, we try again each day and email you, and we leave the address to run out rather than pay for it ourselves.

Once an address has run out it stops working, and after a short while anyone can register it.

Cancelling your website does not cancel your web address. The address keeps renewing, and being charged, until you turn renewing off under Your web address. Deleting a website does turn its address's renewing off.

You can move your address to another company whenever you want. The code you need is on the Your web address page, and it is yours even if you owe us money.

A web address cannot be refunded once it is registered, because we pay the year up front and the address is yours to keep. If you cancel a yearly package within your first 14 days, we refund the package and keep back the price of any web address we registered for you, and you keep the address.

Members on your website

On Pro, visitors can make an account on your website. You are responsible for how you use their details, and for telling them what you use them for.

AI writing

Every package includes AI writing help in the builder. Each website gets an allowance each month: Starter 100 changes and 5 whole pages, Business 300 and 15, Pro 600 and 30. A change is one heading, paragraph, list line or button. When an allowance runs out it starts again on the 1st of the next month.

If you need more before then, you can buy a top-up - £3, £7 or £19. Top-ups never run out, and your monthly allowance is always used first.

It is there to write your own website. Please do not use it to churn out pages for other people, or for anything the rules above do not allow.

AI can be wrong. Read what it writes before you publish it, and check anything that matters — prices, opening hours, what you promise your customers. What ends up on your website is yours, so what it says is your responsibility. Your words are sent to Anthropic to be written; the privacy page explains what is sent and what we keep.

Your account and signing in

When you sign up, we email you a link to confirm your address. A sign-up that is not confirmed within 7 days is removed.

After your password, we email you a sign-in code to type, so a stolen password on its own is not enough. You can switch the code off for your account, or add a passkey - your fingerprint, face or device PIN - and sign in with that instead. Keep your password and your email account safe: you are responsible for what is done when you are signed in.

Deleting a website

You can delete a website once nothing on it is published. Its plan is cancelled at the end of the period you have paid for, and its web address stops renewing. For 30 days you can change your mind and bring it back; after that it is gone for good.

Your part

You are responsible for everything on your site, including anything your visitors send through your forms.

When you make an account you agree to these rules, and we record the date. If the rules change, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
